Weekend Explorations with Woodpecker Wooliams

Last Saturday, Soundtracks Festival hosted Woodpecker Wooliams no less than twice! First up solo in an incredible underground bunker like environment at the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe. The great entrance hall to the former Thames tunnel - apparently hailed as the 8th wonder of the world at its times, 1826 that was.

Later on, Dalston Boys Club with the full band, which seems like something of Jimmy Saviles old hideout..
All together a roaring success and a great start to woodpeckers festival season.

Introducing: Men in Burka. The crew out of Denver is the brain child of Kamran Khan, member of Modern Witch. The project began as a solo effort founded in September of 2011. Khan recruited fellow Modern Witch member Mario Zoots and long time collaborator Strange Powers shortly after the project’s inception. Their self-titled debut with the Bay Area’s Tundra Dubs label was released on the 15th of May 2012.  The album was a blend of various Middle Eastern themes and influenced by the rhythms of modern dance music including Chicago House, Hip Hop, Bass, Electro and Bounce. Since their first release, the group has gone on to share stages with Balkan Beat Box, Chelsea Wolfe, SSION, Pictureplane, Tanlines, oOoOO and many others. In 2012 MIB played over 30 shows including the two biggest Denver music festivals (Underground Music Showcase and the Westword Music Showcase), played several shows at SXSW and self-released a follow up album titled War / Magic. The 6-track EP “Techno Allah” is scheduled for release end of July on ltd. 12” Vinyl, ltd. She played at a BAD FUN night on the Friday at Henderson’s at St. John’s, and we were finally able to get this recorded on Sunday after the hangovers had subsided a little.
