Woodpecker Wooliams - Hummingbird video, filmed by Paola Suhonen of Ivana Helsinki
The spirit of of travelling and reconnecting with the natural world is captured here by Paola Suhonen, head designer for Finnish/NYC fashion house Ivana Helsinki (http://www.ivanahelsinki.com) , in this video, shot with a Super-8 camera in the Mojave desert. Woodpecker Wooliams first collaborated with the design label during her joint tour of Russia with Fiona Sally Miller earlier in 2012, when Ivana Helsinki provided stagewear for their shows.
“Fiona and I were planning our Russian tour and realised we didn’t really know how to dress ourselves or were bored of our current ‘images’. I’m involved in a fashion design course, offering support for creative - out of work / training teenagers. It’s opened my eyes to fashion as something which can be truly expressive and creative, where previously I’d assumed it to be a purely commercial venture. So, we looked at various indie designers we liked and approached Ivana Helsinki with ideas of collaborating somehow for our Russian tour. They very kindly sponsored us with a couple of dresses each; and as the head designer, Paola Suhonen also studies with the American Institute of Film, she offered to create a video for each of us. ‘Hummingbird’ is the first. There is also talk of going out to the NY flagship store for a show at some point… “
