These Single Spies are playing a couple of gigs this June, one of them tonight at Proud Galleries in Chalk Farm:
- June 13 - Proud Galleries, Camden. FREE ENTRY
- June 18 - Carnivale, Whitechapel. Supporting Citadels.
- June 29 - The Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell.
Thee Single Spy are playing in The Social upcoming Tuesday, August 31st. It’s Little Portland Street off Oxford Street in London.
Come by if you can - it’s free entry and The Social is one of my favourite London clubs. It’s small and intimate, and has always a good crowd.
Before I forget, here is a slection of press quotes for their single release “OK Corral”:
GOD IS IN THE TV: “Bloody glorious wide screen baroque pop; Single Of The Week.”
VAINZINE: “OK Corral’s down-tempo haunting harmonies, played alongside some pretty special Robert Smith-esque vocals, make for a truly mesmerising listen with layers of instrumental composition that produce a sound of blissful simplicity - 5/5.”
CULTURE DELUXE: “OK Corral is the incredibly self-assured new single from Thee Single Spy. Adventurous and mature, this is the sort of song that you point dullards like The Courteeners toward when they start claiming that they’ve written the best album ever.”
THE LINE OF BEST FIT: “Alex Mattinson’s rich baritone range has an elusive haunting quality that combines the best part of Nick Cave and Jeff Mangum; the previously unsung London has just been sung.”
A NEGATIVE NARRATIVE: “Thee Single Spy seamlessly splice imagery and lyricism in the manner of some of our favourite things - Bill Callahan, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bright Eyes and Elliott Smith. They do this over a carefully orchestrated menagerie of regal instrumentation, resulting in a warm, welcoming sound that is equal parts careful contemplation and noir dream sequences.”
THE MUSIC FIX: “An instrumentally adventurous track, OK Corral is something of a rough cut gem.”
