New Release! Robot Elephant vs. Tundra Dubs - Compilation on 12” Vinyl, CD, Digital, coming end of March 2012.

Long time in the making (I think I proposed to do this to Ben Tundra about 9 months ago), we can finally announce this new compilation curated by Robot Elephant Records and Tundra Dubs in collaboration. Each side features 5 songs from 5 artists on the respective label roster - some of the songs are exclusive and will never appear anywhere else. Some of the artists are established since 2-3 years, some are brand new and will soon come up with debut releases.

As with all things we tend to release on our label, it’s an eclectic vision of interesting, unusual electronic music, composed by artists from all over the world-  from Perth / Australia with Ourobonic Plague, to Bucharest / Romania (Hipdiebattery), Germany (The Church of Synth), Mexico (Ritualz), Italy (Husband) and whole bunch of US artists with ∆Aimon, Funerals, Mascara, Grimm Soundsystem and I††.

Tracklisting:

RER Side:

  1. Husband – Flowers
  2. Ritualz – Heat
  3. Hipdiebattery – Bones
  4. The Church of Synth – Geh Ins Licht
  5. Ourobonic Plague – The Outer Alphabet

Tundra Dubs’ Side:

  1. ∆Aimon – Low
  2. Funerals – Water Over Night
  3. Mascara – Sonnambula
  4. Grimm Soundsystem – Korby Bryers
  5. I†† - Local Locusts

Pre-order + sound snippets will be available on Monday next week via the Robot Elephant Shop.

The Church of Synth - Der Fall von Leviathan

Robot Elephant Records will be releasing the debut of The Church of Synth! Aimed for September 2011, the drone-tastic heavy 6-Track LP will be coming on 12” Vinyl, CD and Digital Download, along with some bonus downloads of incredible remixes courtesy of Wisconsins dark drone Lord Burial Hex, Perth-based noisenick Ourobonic Plague and London’s latest Avant-Garde Audio Artist The Haxan Cloak.

The video above is for the single “Der Fall von Leviathan” - or in English “The Fall of Leviathan”  - showcasing some of the basic elements of this music, and despite the drone  / noise / long runtime not missing out a small but sweet pop sensitivity that goes through the works of the Church of Synth.

The Church of Synth will be playing Live in London at the following dates:

  • Monday June 20th - CAMP Basement with Ritualz and Design a Wave - Tickets
  • Saturday June 25th - The Victoria (Mile End) - CAGE Clubnight

“…Slowed-down hip-hop beats, crude electronics, nerve-jangling samples and bad-dream sounds.”

“Drag tracks are always beat-driven but molasses-paced— the bass is prominent, but drowsy and languid. Vocals are there, but no one’s singing upfront. (Typically, vocals are manipulated in some way and buried in the mix.) It’s not necessarily tech-y music— there’s a human quality to these songs but it’s ghostly and distorted, as if the tracks themselves are haunted. “

Stearica are Italians foremost Improvisation / Post Rock band (or how they call it, beyond rock). Check out their last album Oltre, it’s fantastic.

Acid Mothers Temple don’t need too much of an introduction I hope. They are intergalactic Space Rock troubadours, and I saw them a couple of years ago collaborating with Guru Guru and since then I am adoring them, and their gig at SxSW on a car park, only illuminated by camera flashes, was a revelation and for sure one of my gigs of the year yet!

Together they created a space rock epic.

 Thee Single Spy
‘OK Corral’
Release Date:  9th August 2010
Label: Robot Elephant Records
Cat No: RER02
Format: 7” Vinyl / Digital Release

“Brilliantly well-crafted indie pop.”
Jon Hilcock – NME Radio

Try to fathom a band who seamlessly fuse image-laden lyrics, reminiscent of Neutral Milk Hotel and Bill Callahan, over a rich plethora of instrumentation, including French horns, organs, pianettes and clarinets. To author a sound that is both lo-fi hi-fi indie honest and organic. This is Thee Single Spy.

Formed in 2007 as a solo acoustic venture for front man Alex Mattinson, early comparisons lay with Bright Eyes, Lambchop and Nick Cave. As they stand in 2010, Thee Single Spy comprises of Benjamin Brunel (Accordion/Clarinet/Vocals) James Ingham (Bass) Pete Clarke (Piano/Organ/Guitar) and Michael Alloway (Drums/Vocals).

‘OK Corral’ - a lament to a past love and the feeling of being trapped by past mistakes - is the first single to be released on flourishing independent label Robot Elephant Records and the first track to be taken from their recently completed debut album, titled “Shipwrecking”, co-produced Luke Joyce (British Sea Power/The Macabees/Laura Marling). Recorded over a nine-day period and accompanied by the solitude of Brighton’s coast, Thee Single Spy interspersed 12 hour days with the consumption of brandy, snowball fights and constructing igloos, to the soulful sounds of Billie Holiday.

Live, the band are poised for a series of dates over the summer period, and with recent support slots for the likes of Emmy The Great, Chimes and Bells (Bella Union) and Goldheart Assembly, expect to see Thee Single Spy on a profusion of festival bills for 2011.
